The true sign of the Cross is the justification of mankind through faith, by means of Christ’s death on the Cross. It is the way God justifies us to save us in a fallen world.

Justification is something much deeper than the restoration of divine friendship.

Justification involves:

1. God is just.
2. We are unjust.
3. A just God cannot declare an unjust person like us as righteous. Christ had to die on the Cross as an expiatory sacrifice—a righteous one for the unrighteous.
4. This justification through Christ on the Cross is received by us through faith, and God justifies us, remaining just in declaring the unrighteous as righteous, because He has imputed to us the righteousness of Christ on the Cross.
